Washington (US) – India had summoned US diplomat Gloria Berbena to address the remarks made by US regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, emphasising the importance of non-interference in India’s internal affairs. However, US has once again made a statement in this case. During a press briefing, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller asserted, ”We are firm on our stand, that we encourage fair, transparent, timely legal processes. We do not think anyone should object to that.”

1. Furthermore, about the freezing of Congress party bank accounts, the US said, ”We are also aware of the Congress party’s allegations that tax authorities have frozen some of their bank accounts in a manner that will make it challenging to effectively campaign in the upcoming elections.”

2. When questioned by reporters regarding the summoning of Gloria Berbena, Miller declined to elaborate, stating, “I am not going to talk about any private diplomatic conversations.”

3. Regarding Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, the US had issued a statement on the night of 26th March that, “Our Government is keeping an eye on the case of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. There should be a fair investigation. We assume and expect that the standards relating to independence of Judiciary and basic democratic principles will also be applied in this case.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • US is not naive in understanding India’s protest. Could there be a Khalistani tinge to the repeated and deliberate intervention by US ? This should be investigated to know intentions of US.
  • The intentions of US are very suspicious, it is the same country that had no problems when Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested, but suddenly there is a problem when Delhi’s Chief Minister, Kejriwal is arrested.
