The chief priest of the temple is Siddoboyina Arun Kumar

Mangapet (Telangana) – ‘It would be against the traditions of the sect if Halal animal sacrifice is offered to the Goddess Sammakka-Saralakka during the fair to be held in Medaram. The Goddess too, would not accept it’, said Siddboyina Arun Kumar, Chief Priest of the temple. He has circulated a video in this regard through social media.

1. In this video, Siddboyina Arun Kumar said, ‘Whoever comes to offer animal sacrifice, should respect the tribal customs and follow them. Devotees should not disrespect these customs.’

2. Medaram fair is being organised for the past several decades. More than one crore devotees are expected to attend this fair. Sammakka and Saralakka are worshiped here in the form of Forest Deities. Devotees sacrifice goats and chickens here as offerings. This year the fair is organised from 21st to 24th February.

How is Halal animal sacrifice performed ?

To obtain ‘Halal’ meat, the jugular vein of the animal is cut and it is left for some time. The animal bleeds profusely and suffocates to death. When this animal is sacrificed, its face is turned towards Makkah (Islam’s holiest city).

Editorial Perspective

Halal animal sacrifice being offered in a Hindu temple’s religious fair, showcases the lack of education of Dharma among Hindus. It is necessary that Hindu organisations take efforts to give Dharmik education to Hindus.
