Lahore (Pakistan) – Now kite flying has also become an anti-Islamic act in Pakistan. Ulema (experts on Islam) have issued a fatwa in this regard after discussing it with the Lahore Police Department. In this fatwa, three acts have been declared anti-Islamic and those who perform them shall be declared criminals. These include riding a unicycle, flying kites and shooting in the air. To prove that these crimes are Haram (un-Islamic), the fatwa cites verses from the Quran and Hadith (Collections of how Prophet Muhammad behaved and spoke in a particular situation).

1. Citing a fatwa, the Police Officer said that these acts are tantamount to suicide; as the Quran clearly forbids such acts that lead to self-destruction. All three activities have been banned due to their unnecessary expenditure, harmful effects and un-Islamic nature.

2. Inspector General of Police Faisal Kamran said that in the last 20 days, the Police have registered 150 cases against kite flyers. These cases have been registered at a time when a large number of Hindus fly kites in the area on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and Vasant Ritu. Along with this, 151 people have been arrested for driving a one-wheeler on the road and 118 suspects have been arrested for their involvement in aerial firing.
