A US ship was on its way to India

Mumbai – Houthi rebels in Yemen attacked a US and a British merchant ship each in the Red Sea using drones. The US ship was on its way to India. According to information provided by the UK’s ‘United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations’, the US ship ‘Star Nasia’ was attacked on the night of 6th February, while the British ship ‘Morning Tide’ was attacked on the morning of the same day. The ships were damaged, but there were no casualties.
Houthi rebels are constantly targeting ships in the Red Sea. They are acting against the US and Britain. Since 11th January, the US has targeted Houthi rebel positions in Yemen 10 times.
As a result of Houthi rebel assaults, 2,000 merchant vessels navigating the Red Sea have altered their routes. This route facilitates around 15% of global trade, with sea routes accounting for a substantial 80% of India’s trade. Simultaneously, the nation relies on sea routes for 90% of its fuel needs. In the event of a seaborne attack, India’s economic activities would be adversely impacted, leading to a potential disruption in the supply chain.
