Statement of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren before his arrest
Ranchi (Jharkhand) – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren resigned late in the evening on 31 st January. He was then arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Soren is the third Chief Minister of Jharkhand and the seventh Chief Minister of India to be arrested while serving as Chief Minister. Soren had released a video of himself before his arrest. In it he is saying that ED will arrest me today; but I don’t care. I am son of Shibu Soren.

He further said that after a whole day of interrogation, it was decided to arrest me by people who were not related to me. He claimed in the video message that the ED has no concrete evidence yet. "There was also an attempt to tarnish my image by deliberately raiding my residence in Delhi. Now we have to stand against those who oppress the poor and tribals’, he said ‘We have to wage a new fight against this exploitation’.
Arrested for involvement in the case related to land scam
Soren has been arrested in a financial misappropriation case related to the land scam. The permission of the Assembly Speaker is required for the arrest of the Chief Minister in criminal cases. To avoid this process, ED first arrested Soren and then took him to the Governor. Soren could be arrested only after he resigned.
