India dropped from 85 th to 93 rd position in Transparency International’s world corruption ranking

Corruption in India has increased as per the 2023 report

New Delhi – According to the 2023 report of ‘Transparency International’, India ranks 93 out of 180 countries in the world in terms of corruption. India was ranked 85th in 2022. This means that there is an increase in corruption in India in 2023 as compared to 2022. Countries with high corruption are ranked higher while countries with low corruption are ranked lower. According to the 2023 report, Pakistan is ranked 133rd, while China is ranked 76th. Somalia ranks 180th and is the most corrupt country.

For these rankings, Transparency International’s experts assess public sector corruption in each country. Each country is then given a score between 0 to 100. The more corrupt the country, the lower the score. Ranking is decided on this basis. India scored 39 in the 2023 report, compared to 40 in 2022. India has dropped 8 places due to just one point.

Editorial Perspectives

  • 85 th rank of India last year itself was a matter of concern, but it was not taken seriously, and corrupt people were not punished. Because of these reasons, corruption has increased in India.
  • Unless and until the death penalty is given to corrupt people in India, there is little possibility of a positive change in this situation.
