Restore the ‘Adhai Din ka Zopra’ mosque to original Hindu structure – Demands Rajasthan’s BJP MP Ramcharan Bohra

BJP’s Ram Charan Bohra

Ajmer (Rajasthan) – A mosque known as ‘Adhai Din Ka Zopra’ here, was built by demolishing a Hindu temple and Hindus are now demanding that it be handed over to Hindus. BJP MP Ramcharan Bohra wishes to hear recitation of Sanskrit chants here. He has written a letter to G Kishan Reddy, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of the North-Eastern Region of India, advocating the revival of this place to its original site and return to Hindus.

1.‘Adhai Din ka Zopra’ was the ‘Saraswati Kanthabharat Mahavidyalay’, dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. There was also a temple in this complex. In 1192, Muhammad Ghori defeated Maharaj Prithviraj Chauhan and took over Ajmer. Later, Ghori instructed his slave Qutb-ud-Din- Aibak to destroy all temples in the city and construct mosques at their places within 60 hours. The construction of a mosque was completed in 2.5 days; therefore, the mosque got its name as ‘Adhai Din ka Zopra’.

2.Bohra has stated in his letter that the present structure is a blot on India’s history and revival of this structure in its original form is important.

Editorial Perspectives

  • There are hundreds of mosques in India which were built by demolishing Hindu temples; therefore, instead of demanding individually, the Union Government should make a list of all such temples and take steps to hand them over to Hindus !
  • The then Congress Government passed ‘Places of Worship Act’ under which it is not possible to demand restoration of temples where mosques are standing now over demolished Hindu temples. Hindus expect this Government to repeal this law.
