Religious freedom in Pakistan and China in danger, US report says

Washington (USA) – The US has published a list of countries that violate religious freedom. Pakistan and China are included in this list. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has opposed it, saying that the US report is biased and discriminatory. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a press release that there are many countries on this list including Myanmar, Russia, Iran, North Korea and Saudi Arabia. These countries have been included in the list of countries of ‘special concern’. Serious cases related to violation of religious freedom are reported in these countries. Blasphemy law exists in Pakistan and is widely misused. Pakistan is being condemned globally for not investigating it. Radicals in Pakistan target religious minorities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists and Ahmadiyya Muslims by abusing this law.

Pakistan claimed, ‘We have taken many steps to protect religious freedom and the rights of the minorities. (Who would believe this ridiculous claim ? – Editor). We believe that religious intolerance and hatred of Islam can be dealt with, by mutual understanding and respect. Pakistan has also held bilateral discussions with the US on this issue.”

Editorial Viewpoint

The plight of Hindus in Pakistan is well known. Only time will tell whether the US just publishes such reports and remains silent or reprimands Pakistan for atrocities against the minorities.
