Religion is a personal choice, not to be converted into an instrument for political gain : Communist Party of India (Marxist)

Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury turns down invitation to attend the inauguration of Shriram Temple

New Delhi – “Religion is a personal choice, not to be converted into an instrument for political gain”, states the CPM party in a post on X. Party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury was invited to attend the inauguration of Shriram Temple in Ayodhya; but he has refused to attend the ceremony. CPM has posted on X referring to this incident.

The post further states, “It is “most unfortunate” that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have converted a religious ceremony into a State-sponsored event directly involving the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and other Government functionaries. A fundamental principle of governance in India as reiterated by the Supreme Court is that the State in India, under the Constitution, should have no religious affiliation. This is being violated by the ruling regime in the organisation of the event”.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Anti-Hindu hypocrisy of CPM. If it were an invitation to attend the inauguration of a mosque or a church, had the CPM made a similar statement ?
  • Russian Communists follow Christianity while Chinese Communists follow Buddhism, but the so-called Indian Hindu Communists criticise Hindu Dharma and pretend to be Communists.
