In the last 5 years, more than 13.7 lakh Muslim women have been given Triple Talak

No reduction in incidents of Talak despite legislation against Triple Talak since 5 years

New Delhi – The Union Government abolished Triple Talak (divorce being granted by the man saying ‘Talak’ three times to the women) through a legislation for the Muslim women. This happened 5 years ago, but there has been no reduction in incidents of Triple Talak. According to the statistics of the Union Law Ministry in the year 2023 till now 1,57,725 women have been given Triple Talak. And it is mostly the economically poorer section of women who are thus affected.

Since 19 September 2018, the day from when the law was passed, more than 13.7 lakh incidents of Triple Talak have taken place. In 2019 2.69 lakh cases, in 2020, 95,000 cases, and in 2021, 5.41 lakh  cases, in 2022, 2.45 lakh cases have taken place. In all these cases the women have been given aid through various Government organisations.

Supreme Court’s Justice BS Chauhan said, that in this context the senior leaders of the Muslim community should help to create awareness in the community. They should be made aware of the harsh rules of this law. Similarly, without hearing the divorced women, interim bail hearing should not be heard. This will create fear among the people and they will follow the law. The courts should look at these incidents strictly.

Editorial perspective

Despite making harsh laws against Muslims Triple Talak, the Muslims keep behaving according to their religious law, breaking the Indian Penal Code and so committing crime. Hence, there is a doubt that the Muslims will not follow Common Civil Code, law for controlling the population etc. even if they are passed. This makes it imperative that Bharat should be made a Hindu Rashtra.
