Lt General’s effort to displace the army chief in Bangladesh unsuccessful !

Lieutenant General confined to house arrest

Bangladesh Army Chief Waqar-uz-Zaman

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A Lieutenant General in the Bangladesh Army, identified as a supporter of Pakistan and the Jamaat-e-Islami party, has been confined to house arrest following his unsuccessful attempt to take charge of the Bangladeshi Army. An attempt was being made to displace Bangladesh Army Chief Waqar-uz- Zaman, reportedly with the involvement of the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI. In this context, Lieutenant General Faizur Rehman sought to replace Zaman, but his attempt failed due to a lack of support.

Lieutenant General Rehman’s authority came into question when senior military officers refused to attend a meeting he convened to assert his power. Following this, the Bangladesh Army Chief became vigilant and placed Rehman under the monitoring of the army’s intelligence division. The identities of approximately 10 army officers have been revealed in connection with this case, including Major General Mir Mushfiqur Rehman.
