New Delhi – According to a report published by the US-based online news outlet ‘The Intercept’, the Indian Government had sent a ‘secret memo’ to all the Indian diplomatic missions across North America in April 2023. It ordered a crackdown on the Khalistani elements. It also contained the names of some Khalistani activists, who the Indian intelligence agencies wanted. Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s name was also included in the memo. The memo reportedly ordered a sophisticated crackdown scheme of Khalistani activists and not assassination or bodily harm. Nijjar was killed 2 months after the reported date of this memo.
The Intercept further reports that India has created a network of local gangsters to kill its enemies in the US. A similar network is also operational in Pakistan. Because of this, after Nijjar’s murder the US investigating agency FBI had asked the Khalistan sympathisers to stay alert.
India denies reports of a ‘secret memo’
The Indian Government has denied Intercept’s report about the memo. India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Such reports are fake and completely fabricated. There is no such memo, this is part of a sustained disinformation campaign against India. The outlet in question is known for propagating fake narratives peddled by Pakistani intelligence. The posts of the authors confirm this linkage”.
The report authored by Murtaza Hussain and Ryan Grim
This report was authored jointly by Murtaza Hussain and Ryan Grim. Murtaza’s 5 of 10 reports in ‘The Intercept’ are related to India and Khalistan. One of these reports takes reference from Pakistan’s intelligence department. It alleges India of killing Sikh and Kashmiri activists in foreign countries.
