(‘Catwalk’ in fashion show means walking across the stage in different costumes and showing them to the audience)
Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh) – Muslim girls took part in a fashion show at ‘Shri Ram Group of College,’ where actress Mandakini was also in attendance. The event gained attention as some Muslim students chose to showcase their outfits while wearing burqas, sparking a subsequent controversy.
Regarding the incident, Kanween Jamiat Ulema Maulana Mukarram Qasmi said, “it is inappropriate for college students to wear burqas and participate in catwalks during fashion shows because the burqa is a matter of pride for women. Burqa is not part of fashion. College students and their teachers have hurt the sentiments of Muslims by doing this kind of act. Therefore, they should refrain from such things. If this happens again, we will take action against them”.
