Meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden
San Francisco (USA) – Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden met on the evening of 15th November during the ongoing Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in California. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi were also present in the first session of the bilateral meeting. At this time, Xi Jinping said that the US should stop arming Taiwan, and support China’s peaceful reunification.
Xi Jinping said, “US actions against China regarding export control, investment screening and unilateral sanctions seriously hurt China’s legitimate interests. Suppressing China’s science and technology is curbing China’s high-quality development. Planet Earth is big enough for both superpowers. Our countries are very different but we can transcend these differences. For two large countries like China and the United States, turning their back on each other is not an option. Conflict and confrontation have unbearable consequences for both sides”.
During the meeting, Biden said, ” I value our conversation because I think it’s paramount that you and I understand each other clearly, leader to leader, with no misconceptions or miscommunication. We have to ensure that competition does not veer into conflict”.
During the press conference, Biden said, “I had a very good discussion with Xi Jinping. We had serious and positive discussions on many topics. I again clarified the US position on the Taiwan issue. We support the ‘One-China Policy’ and that is not going to change”.
