Shah Alam, a resident of Sompura area of Hathazari, Chittagong, Bangladesh
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Shah Alam, a resident of Sompura area of Hathazari, Chittagong, Bangladesh, tried to enter the Durga Puja Mandap. Due to his suspicious behaviour, the Puja Celebration Committee members immediately apprehended him and handed over to the Police. Alam had a bag full of copies of the Quran with him. After 3 hours, the Police released Alam citing mentally instability. (Be it India or Bangladesh, it remains a baffling enigma why individuals who desecrate Hindu places of worship are consistently labelled as mentally unstable – Editor) However, the information about his release went viral on social media, after which he was rearrested at 2 a.m.
The incident took place on 21st October at Sri Sri Rakshakali Temple in Sompura area. The Committee members said that Police claimed Alam was mentally disabled without a thorough investigation. Members of the Puja committee have alleged that Alam was trying to enter the Durga Puja Mandap to cause disturbance.
