Refusal to conduct Lok Sabha proceedings until behavior of the members does not improve

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s decision after repeated disruptions in Parliament

New Delhi – Amid ruckus being raised by opposition parties in the Parliament over Manipur violence for past 9 days, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla refused to conduct the proceedings on 10th day. He warned that he will not conduct Lok Sabha proceedings until the members behave accordingly to the dignity of the House. Maintaining dignity of the Parliament is a collective responsibility. The behaviour of some members is against the tradition. The behaviour of some members is opposite.

As soon as the Parliament began its proceedings in the morning on 2nd August, the proceedings were adjourned till 2 p.m. after about 15 minutes of business due to ruckus.

Editorial Viewpoints

Such decision will have no effect on the members creating a ruckus. Instead, Lok Sabha Speaker is expected to take decisions in his power like expelling, suspending the members creating a ruckus. If the children create a ruckus in the class, the teacher tries to discipline them by giving some form of punishment. Citizens think that the Speaker should take such a tough decision.
