Kashmir is unsafe for the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Hindus

Mr Rajeev Sachan

1. Sanjay Sharma – Head of the only Hindu family left in Achan (Kashmir) murdered

Kashmiri Hindu Sanjay Sharma was murdered some days ago. His only fault was that he was a Hindu, just as many other Kashmiri Hindus who have been murdered in the past. It’s hard to predict when such murders will end. There are still unproven claims that some Kashmiri Hindus were protected in Kashmir. Kashmir is becoming another Afghanistan where only some Hindus and Sikhs are left, and so is the case with the Hindus in Kashmir.

Sanjay Sharma’s family was among the few Kashmiri Hindus who did not leave Kashmir during the peak of terrorism. Sanjay Sharma paid the price for believing in his neighbourhood and in Kashmir’s security. He was a resident of Achan village in Pulwama. He had not gone out of his house to work for 3-4 months, yet, he was killed. Similar incidents like this are on the rise. An estimated 60 Kashmiri families once lived in Kashmir, but they fled due to terrorism. Sanjay Sharma’s family was the only one remaining in this village. After Sanjay Sharma’s murder, his 3 brothers are unable to decide whether to flee from here or stay back. It should be noted that the terrorists could not even tolerate the sole Hindu family living in the entire village.

2. To prevent the Hindus from leaving Kashmir, the Administration stopped their salary

It will be difficult for the Jammu & Kashmir Administration and the Union Government to convince Kashmiri Hindus living in Kashmir not to flee their homes after Sanjay Sharma’s murder. Now no one will be able to understand what the remaining Kashmiri Hindus would be thinking.

In the wake of the murders of Kashmiri Hindus one after another, a group of Hindus realised it would have been better to leave Kashmir for their own well-being. They requested a transfer to Jammu as Government employees but the request was turned down by the Administration. Yet, they left Kashmir and came to Jammu.

Therefore, the Administration stopped paying their salaries, forcing them to work in Kashmir. This desperation led some people to return to Kashmir; however, it may be difficult to gauge how safe they might be feeling there.

3. Elections should not be held in Kashmir without rehabilitating Kashmiri Hindus

A list of 56 Kashmiri Hindu workers in the Kashmir Valley under the Prime Minister’s Development Package was leaked to terrorist organisations three months ago. It is important to pay heed to how such information is being leaked The workplaces and residences of workers were listed in it. The terrorist organisation – ‘The Resistance Front’ – threatened to exterminate Kashmiri Hindus while referring to this list. There was a deliberate leak of a list of Kashmiri Hindu employees. Thus, it is obvious that people who want Kashmiri Hindus to leave are hand-in-glove with the terrorists.

Throughout Kashmir, terrorists target Kashmiri Hindus selectively, creating a sense of terror. As long as terrorists and their supporters feel that by targeting Kashmiri Hindus the latter will leave Kashmir, they will continue to target them. Government and security agencies should also understand this. Claims of normalisation in Kashmir should not be accepted until Kashmiri Hindus who fled for their lives return safely to their homes.

It is not easy to settle Kashmiri Hindus in Kashmir under the present conditions; because the situation there is not suitable for them. Until and unless the Kashmiri Hindus return to their homes, it cannot be concluded that if elections are held in Kashmir, everything will be fine. Hence, the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Hindus must be ensured before elections are held.

4. A strong message must be conveyed by the Government of India

This is not an easy task in the current situation. It requires drastic measures, like Israel took to settle the Jews. It is the right time for the Government to make special settlements to accommodate Kashmiri Hindus. Until the situation improves, ex-servicemen should be asked to stay in these settlements. Earlier, when the idea of creating special colonies for Kashmiri Hindus was raised, everyone opposed it. The Government says that if Kashmiri Hindus want to return, they should live among others as earlier. The Kashmiri Hindus seek guarantee of protection for this.

The Indian Government needs to send a strong message that it will not rest till it settles the Kashmiri Hindus in Kashmir. Through such a message, the Indian Government must convey to the terrorists and their supporters that by targeting Kashmiri Hindus, their aim will not be met.

A message must be conveyed to the supporters and terrorists that by targeting Kashmiri Hindus, their aim will not be met !

Denying the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus

India is in complete denial of the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus in Jammu & Kashmir, and the Kashmiri Hindu community continues to be sacrificial lambs on the altar of ‘Kashmiryat’ and ‘secularism’, concludes a fact-finding report ‘Unabated Genocide of Kashmiri Pandits’. The report is based on the life of the Hindu minority in Kashmir post-abrogation of Article 370 and after targeted killings since the start of 2020.
A 3-member fact-finding delegation of Rahul Kaul, Amit Raina and Vithal Chowdhary was nominated by frontline Kashmiri Pandit organisations like ‘Panun Kashmir’, ‘Roots in Kashmir’ and ‘Youth 4 Panun Kashmir’. The brief of the Committee was to visit the camps of PM Package employees in the Valley, employees serving and families living in the Valley and PM Package employees protesting in Jammu.
The report concludes that internally displaced Hindus of Kashmir are caught up between the forces that continue to perpetrate genocide on them and the forces of denial of the genocide.

“Political parties, including the leaders responsible for ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ being enacted in the Valley continue to enjoy patronage of the state. The prime example being the facilities and security being provided to political leaders here.”
