The Supreme Courts notice to Bengal and Tamil Nadu about the ban on The Kerala Story in their States
New Delhi – The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to Bengal and Tamil Nadu Governments on banning ‘The Kerala Story’. The Court has sought an answer from them. The hearing about this will be held on the 17th of May. The producer and director of the Film has lodged a petition against the banning of the film. Chief Justice of India Dhananjay Chandrachud chided the Bengal Government – When this film is shown all over the country why it is not allowed in Bengal ? Let the people decide if the film is good and bad. If the film can be shown peacefully in other States, then why can it not be the same in Bengal ? This film is being shown without disrupting the peace in States that have the same geo-physical attributes as Bengal.
1. During the hearing Advocate Harish Salve said, the Film was released after being certified by the Central Censor Board, on 5th of May in the country. But the Bengal Government banned it. While the Tamil Nadu Government decided to withdraw it from the theatres under the pretext of security and law and order.
2. Bengal Governments Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued, we banned the film for security reasons as we had got a confidential report. The Producers should be asked to go to the High Court.
3. To this the Chief Justice responded, ‘How can you say this when the film is being shown in the rest of the country ? We are issuing a notice. We will hear this case on 17th May.
4. The Advocate for the Tamil Nadu Government said, we did not ban the film. To this, the Chief Justice ordered, ‘you will give security to the film theatres showing the film. Give this in writing.’
Editorial Viewpoints
Just issuing a notice to Governments who under the name of democracy implement dictatorial Hinduphobic policy is not enough. The public feels it is necessary that they should be punished. It is necessary that the Hindus teach a lesson to TMC Government in Bengal and DMK Government in Tamil Nadu. They did nothing to prevent the atrocities against Hindus in a Hindu majority country, but they banned the movie that brought these atrocities against the Hindus before the world. |
