‘Filmfare Awards’ are immoral and anti-cinema : Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri

Mumbai – Noted filmmaker and director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has said that he does not want to be a part of the immoral and anti-cinema ‘Filmfare Awards’. His film ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been nominated in 7 categories in the 68th ‘Filmfare Awards’ nominations. Director Agnihotri made his comments against the above background. He has expressed his feelings through a lengthy post on Twitter.

The nominations for the film include the names of Agnihotri himself, actors Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and video editor Shankh Rajyadhyaksha. Agnihotri said Filmfare’s prime focus is only on the big names of the industry and no importance is given to the director, writer and other people working on the films. These people are treated as ‘slaves of the artists’. Filmmakers are not recognised by these awards but by their work. Hence, this disgraceful system must end.

Editorial viewpoint

Films are expected to be a mirror for society so as to give a wake-up call and guide it in the right direction. But if the films produced are immoral and anti-cinema and if awards are given to encourage them, then how will such films ever benefit society ?
