Islamabad (Pakistan) – A Chinese citizen was arrested in Pakistan on blasphemy charges. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14-days. Reacting to this, China has said that it is verifying the report.

On 16th April 2023, the Pakistan Police arrested a Chinese engineer named Tian working at a hydropower project in Kohistan District in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of the country on accusations of blasphemy. He allegedly commented about the slow pace of work during the Islamic month of Ramzan during an argument with his Pakistani subordinates at his workplace. After this, two Pakistani drivers filed a complaint against him. As news of the argument and alleged blasphemy spread, a charged mob of several hundred people, chanting death threats against Tian, gathered outside the residential camp and began pelting it with stones. Under the blasphemy law in Pakistan, this offense is punishable by death.

Editorial viewpoint

Citizens of other countries are arrested in Pakistan when they insult their religion. In India, foreign establishments like Amazon mock Hindu Deities, but they are not punished. This is shameful for Hindus !
