Zawawi welcomed the programs organised by NGOs to promote tolerance. These programmes must follow the guidelines laid down by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department, said Zawawi in a statement. He reminded organisations wishing to organise religious activities to be more sensitive so that no misunderstanding is spread. He urged non-Muslim organisations to contact the Islamic Religious Affairs Department or the State Mufti for clarification on this.

A board about a visit to a church in Klang by members of the NGO Impact Malaysia had caused chaotic situation. The placard was an invitation to non-Christians to visit the church to learn more about Christianity. Zawawi released the statement while responding to it. Malaysian Minister Hannah Yeoh said that Muslim youth did not participate in the event.
