Kozhikode (Kerala) – Kerala Police raided the news Channel Asianet’s office and conducted investigations. Then they registered a case against the news channel. This matter has been raised in the Kerala Vidhan Sabha. Independent MLA P.V. Anwar presented a case against Channel in the Vidhan Sabha. Replying to this Chief Minister Pinnarai Vijayan stated that an inquiry was initiated on receiving complaints against the channel. Also, a case has been registered against them.

1. In the Kochi office of the Asianet News channel, the members of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s student wing SFI attacked and vandalised the place. Police arrested 8 individuals for this act. But two days later the Police raided the office of this news channel.

2. Police, however, said the inspection was conducted in connection with its probe into a complaint filed that accused the media house of telecasting a fake interview as part of its series titled “Narcotic is a dirty business’’ in November last year. In the interview, telecast on 10th November, a 14-year-old schoolgirl from Kannur alleged that she was abused after being forced to use synthetic drugs. The complainant told the Police that the interview was fake, and shot with another girl. The girl’s parents, however, rejected the allegation, maintaining that the channel’s correspondent did a detailed interview with her. “Whatever my daughter said in the interview is correct,” said her father, adding that she has revealed the truth to protect other girls.

3. The State’s ruling Communist Front alleges that the channel Asianet works under the instruction of the Union Government, and attempts to malign the State Government.

4. Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrashekar has invested in this channel. Rajeev Kalra the Executive Chairman of Asianet News Network stated that the case filed by the Police was false, and legal action will be taken against it.

Those who created havoc condemning the Income Tax Department’s raid on the offices of the BBC are silent over what has happened at the Asianet office. This exposes their double standards !
