‘Jihadi Bride’ Shamima Begum

London – Britain has refused to give citizenship to ‘Jihadi Bride’, Shamima Begum who married a terrorist of Islamic State. She left the United Kingdom to join ISIS at the age of 15. Begum is one of three east London schoolgirls who traveled to Syria in 2015 to support the IS group.

1. Shamima Begum’s citizenship was revoked when she went to Syria. She brought a challenge against the Home Office over the decision at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) but Justice Jay rejected Begum’s legal challenge.

2. The Court in Britain said that the decision to strip the citizenship of Shamima Begum by the Home Department was appropriate.

3. This decision bars her from returning to the UK and leaves her stuck in a camp in northern Syria. She is the mother of two now. She had pleaded many times with the British Government for forgiveness and reinstating her citizenship, but the British Government declined her plea repeatedly.

India should learn from Britain taking stringent action against the young woman marrying a terrorist.
