New Delhi – A dispute broke out between the activists of the communist student organisation – Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over the celebration of Shiv Jayanti on the evening of 19th February at the Jawaharlal Nehru University ( JNU). The dispute arose when the students who belonged to the SFI desecrated the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. A picture of this incident has now become viral on social media. A large Police force was deployed at the university as soon as news of this dispute came to light. They managed to calm the students of both groups.
Leftists anarchy and hate for Indian role models becomes evident again.
The way they broke and disrespected the portrait of Shivaji Maharaj, is unacceptable. Previously, they had vandalised Swami Vivekanand statue in #JNUCampus. Why do they hate Indian Greats so much ?#JNU pic.twitter.com/q2RvcEoUUO

Speaking on the matter the ABVP secretary Umesh Chandra Ajmera said that they had placed a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Student Activity Center on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti. The students of the SFI forcibly removed this statue and threw the garland in the trash. The students of the SFI are harming the image of the university and it is imperative that the administration should take strict actions against them.

The National Students’ Union of India said that ABVP had to seek permission of the university to keep the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, but the ABVP did not take permission. There was supposed to be another event to be held at that exact same place. That is why the students removed the statue of Shivaji Maharaj.
