A survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

New Delhi – A National Family Health Survey was conducted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It revealed that 0.5% of women have sex with more than one partner compared to men in 11 States and Union Territories. Also, 4 % of men have sex with women who are neither their wives nor live-in-partner. A survey was conducted among 1.1 lakh women and 1 lakh men. The survey was conducted in the States and Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.

1. The number of polygamous women (women having more than one sex partner) in Rajasthan is 3.1%, whereas the number of polygamous men is 1.8%.
2. Rural women make up a greater percentage of polygamous women than urban women.
3. Report the present percentage of polygamous women in various states, including Uttar Pradesh (2.2%), Haryana (1.8%), Delhi (1.1%), Assam (2.1%) and Madhya Pradesh (2.5%), and Tamil Nadu (2.4%).
