London (Britain) – Former England cricketer Monty Panesar criticised the recently released (released on 11th August) movie Laal Singh Chaddha produced by Aamir Khan. The film is disrespectful towards the Indian Army and Sikh community. He has also urged to boycott the film. Laal Singh Chaddha is an adaptation of a Hollywood movie called ‘Forrest Gump’ from 1994. Forrest Gump was shown as a person with subpar intelligence. The story revolves around this character.

Monty Panesar said that Forrest Gump was inducted into the American Army because the country was desperate to fill the spots to fulfill the wartime needs during the Vietnam war. Since the story is a direct adaptation hence it is insulting to Sikhs and the Indian Army.

Editorial viewpoint

How many Sikhs and Indians feel so strongly about such a topic which a sportsman of England feels ?
