Petition in Prayagraj High Court seeks excavation of Agra’s Jama Masjid

Prayagraj (UP) – Advocate Varun Kumar has filed a fresh petition in the Allahabad High Court seeking the excavation of the Jama Masjid at Agra by the Archaeological Survey of India. He said, ‘Remains of Thakur Keshav Devji’s temple are likely to be found under the stairs of this mosque’. Advocate Varun Kumar had earlier filed a similar petition in the Mathura Court, but it has not been heard yet.

Commenting on this petition, Imamuddin of Jama Masjid said that the mosque was commissioned by Shah Jahan’s daughter Jahan Ara, who paid for the construction of this mosque with the money that had been kept aside for her wedding. Imamuddin added that there was little evidence that the said idol had been buried under the steps of the Jama Masjid. To dig up the entire mosque just on the whims of someone would hardly be justified.

Editorial Viewpoint

Hindus should not be compelled to file such petitions. The Central Government must take steps by itself to bring the truth to light by surveying controversial mosques across India !
