Khalistan supporters attack Shiv Sena’s (Bal Thackeray) anti-Khalistan rally in Punjab

A large number of stone-pelting and swords waved by both sides

Patiala (Punjab) – Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) organised a rally against Khalistan called Khalistan Murdabad. Some Sikhs marched against this rally to support Khalistan. Following slogans of ‘Khalistan Murdabad’ in the Shiv Sena’s march, pro-Khalistan Sikhs drew their swords and tried to attack the rally. The Police brought the situation under control by firing in the air.

1. The rally was organised under the leadership of Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) leader Harish Singla. Upon the slogans of Khalistan Murdabad, there was opposition from the Khalistani Sikhs. They called Shiv Sena as Monkey Army and said that they will oppose the march. Therefore, after an argument took place between the two, the Khalistanis first started stone pelting at the Shiv Sena rally and then tried to attack them with the sword. In response, Shiv Sainiks also pelted stones and drew their swords.

2. At the Kalimata temple area, the situation became tense. Videos of the clashes have been circulating on social media. In one video, a man is seen standing on a building next to the temple and pelting stones at people gathered below. A Hindu leader and a Police officer were injured in this clash. Police told that both groups did not receive permission to march.

3. Following the incident, all party leaders appealed to the people of both groups to maintain peace and resolve their differences through dialogue. Currently, a large number of the Police force have deployed to maintain law and order.

We are monitoring the situation – Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann

While speaking on this conflict, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the matter has been discussed with the Director-General of Police.

Currently, there is peace in the area. We are monitoring the situation. We want to ensure that there is no disorder in the State. It is important to have peace in Punjab. (It is not useful to just monitor the situation, but to take action against Khalistan supporters and put them behind bars – Editor)

We will not allow Punjab to become Khalistan – Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray)

Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) leader Harish Singla said that we will not allow Punjab to become Khalistan and will not allow the name Khalistan to be uttered. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, the convener of the Sikh organisation named Sikhs for Justice, had declared 29th April as the Foundation Day of Khalistan.

We had announced a protest against this on 29th April under the name Khalistan Murdabad.

Editorial viewpoints

  • Allegations are being made against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) about their support for the Khalistanis. While the AAP Government is in power in Punjab, the Khalistan supporters are daring to attack the Hindu march. The Central Government should pay serious attention to this and protect the Hindus there, otherwise, Punjab will become another Kashmir.
  • In Punjab, Hindus oppose Khalistan, while the majority of Sikhs remain silent. What is the implied meaning of Khalistani supporters opposing Hindus ?
