CBSE omits the Islamic empire and cold war-related chapters from the curriculum

New Delhi – CBSE board has skipped the chapters covering the Non-Aligned Movement, the Cold-War era, the rise of Islamic empires in Afro-Asian territories, the chronicles of Mughal courts, and the industrial revolution from the history and political science curriculum of the 11th and 12th standards.

‘Impact of globalisation on agriculture’ was removed from the Food security chapter from the 10th standard syllabus. A couple of translated but originally Urdu poems by Faiz Ahmed Faiz were removed from the ‘Religion, Communalism and Politics – Communalism, Secular State’ section.

‘Democracy and Diversity’ section was entirely dropped from the syllabus. The officials stated that the transformations are aimed at improving the syllabus. These improvements are aligned with the recommendations made by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

Editorial comment

Although these are welcome changes, CBSE should still educate the new generation about the cruelties of the Islamic empire. Additionally, the need of the hour is to make incremental improvements to educate about the great history of Hindu empires ! Hindus and historians feel that the Union Ministry for Human Resource Development should make efforts in this direction.
