CJI N V Ramana :  CBI should break ties with politicians to regain lost credibility

Editorial comment

The fact that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India makes such statements directly, means the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been the puppet of all the politicians to date. No wonder the criminals are acquitted while the innocents are prosecuted !

New Delhi – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has lost its credibility. If you want to regain credibility, you will first have to break ties with the politicians and strive to regain credibility, said the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India N V Ramana. He was speaking about Democracy : Role and Responsibilities of Investigative Agencies.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India said,

  • Politicians in power will change over time, but you (CBI) are permanent.
  • The working style of the Police is still British. It needs to change.
  • All investigative agencies, including the CBI, need to be brought under one roof. For this, an autonomous investigation system should be set up. The responsibility should be given to an independent body.
  • Central systems have a heavier workload, as well as a severe shortage of resources. The CBI does not have modern technology, trained officers and even basic facilities. This often makes it difficult to prosecute.
