Guwahati (Assam) – We intend to shut down the madarsas in the State. We have shut down approximately 700 madarsas. The rest are to be converted into nursing schools, medical and engineering colleges. I feel the Muslims should not go to the madarsas, instead, they should go to modern schools and become doctors and engineers and help society. I have closed the madarsas for the betterment of the Muslim community, stated Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in an interview with a news channel.

Sarma further stated, will they vote for me even if I ask them to ? I am sure they will not vote for me. Why should I ask them for votes ? When the Muslim children will grow up and become doctors and engineers, they will surely vote for me. However, that is not the case today.
