Why isn’t the plight of other prisioners treated at par with Fr. Stan Swamy’s ? : HVP

When are people who mourn the death of Fr. Stan Swamy, going to pay attention and show concern over the health of other prisoners ? : Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Fr. Stan Swamy, for being a part of the conspiracy to murder Shri. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India. There were serious accusations against him such as promoting naxalism and joining illegal activities. Many people have expressed heartache over his death. Some eminent leaders and personalities have even written to the President of India.

Fr. Stan Swamy was getting due medical treatment. The High Court had approved a special facility to keep him at a private hospital promoted by the Church. Even then, his death is being politicised, which is very unfortunate. In fact, the problem of health care offered to other prisoners crops up because of this incident. Do the so-called progressive, secular activists and leaders pay attention to the health of other prisoners like the concern shown over Fr. Stan Swamy’s health ?

Why no attention to the applications for medical treatment from the accused Sudhanva Gondhalekar and Ganesh Miskin detained at Arthur Road jail in connection with Nalasopara case ? Why do these so-called progressives and seculars keep mum in such cases ? Even these prisoners should get facilities like Fr. Stan Swamy did”, said Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar (National President of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad).

Sudhanva Gondhalekar, an accused in Nalasopara case, is not able to eat properly in the absence of dental treatment and this is his condition for the past two months. Another accused, Ganesh Miskin, is suffering from varicose veins and he is also not getting proper treatment. These two have not got treatment despite applications to the Court. Will people mourning Fr. Stan Swamy’s death, come forward to solve the problems of other prisoners ? Or is it only politics being played on the death of one person ? Will this system wake up and give equal justice ? Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad (HVP) has raised this query.

All prisoners should get proper treatment and cases should be disposed off early. Dr. Virendrasinh Tawde is innocent, he has been in jail for the past 6 years allegedly for his role in Dabholkar’s murder. The problems he is facing are also grave.

HVP therefore, feels that attention should be paid to all such cases.
