New Delhi – In UP there is a practice of writing the owner’s caste on the vehicle number plate. Vehicles are seen with stickers of caste names like Yadav, Jat, Gurjar, Brahmin, Pandit, Kshatriya, Lodhi, Maurya etc. UP Transport Department has started clamping down such vehicles. After instructions from the PMO the Transport Department has started taking punitive action against the vehicle owners.

The PMO is said to have paid attention to this issue after it was brought to their notice by Harshal Prabhu, a teacher from Maharashtra,. Harshal Prabhu has said that flaunting one’s caste is a threat to the social fabric of the society.
