Ranchi (JH) – Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shivanand Tiwari said that item songs, objectionable ads and pornographic content are the main factors behind incidents of rape. Nobody would have imagined that a girl or woman can get raped in the Adivasi region. Rape has no place in Adivasi culture; however, a woman is being portrayed as an object of desire in consumerist culture. Tiwari condemned the gang-rape of a married woman by 17 men in Jharkhand`s Dumka. The victim is a mother of 5. As of now, there has been one arrest in the case.

Tiwari also said that such incidents in Adivasi region meant that the rot has reached to the root of the society. How can rapes be stopped unless things developing rapist mentality exist? Even though laws were made after the Nirbhaya incident; we had told then too that just stringent punishment won’t stop rapes. Rapes will not stop until things that shape rapist mentality exist.
