Reuse of syringes in a Government hospital in Pakistan infects 331 children with HIV

Exposed after the death of an 8-year-old boy !

Islamabad (Pakistan) – It has now been revealed that, during the period from November 2024 to October 2025, as many as 331 children were found infected with HIV at a Government hospital in Taunsa town of Punjab province in Pakistan. This came to light following the death of an 8-year-old boy. Serious allegations of gross negligence have been levelled against the Government hospital in this case.

1.   According to a report by the BBC, it was found that syringes were being reused in the hospital. In several cases, injections were administered to different children using the same vial of medicine. This significantly increased the risk of infection.

2.   The case surfaced after the death of 8-year-old Mohammad Amin. His sister, Asma, is also HIV-positive. According to their mother, the children contracted HIV due to contaminated needles used during treatment at the hospital.

What does being HIV-infected mean ?

The presence of the ‘Human Immunodeficiency Virus’ (HIV) in the body indicates that a person is HIV-infected. This does not mean that the person has immediately developed AIDS. The virus attacks the body’s immune system, and over time, it weakens the body’s ability to fight other diseases.

Editorial Perspective

It should not be surprising if one is compelled to ask whether the people employed in the hospital were educated in madarasas !
