Deep State’s support behind Muhammad Yunus

  • Claim by Yunus’ close associate Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan

  • Allegation of a conspiracy to keep Yunus in power until 2029

(“Deep State” refers to an alleged international network of influential actors, such as government officials, military officers, private organisations, and wealthy industrialists—who are believed to shape policies or environments in favour of certain interests.)

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – After Sheikh Hasina was removed from power on 5 August 2024, a “Deep State” allegedly devised a plan to keep Muhammad Yunus in power until at least 2029. This claim was made by Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, an advisor in Yunus’s government. He referred to a meeting held on 26 December 2024, at the central office of the National Citizen Party, which was formed with the support of Yunus and his associates.

Key claims made by Asif Mahmud

1. During the early period of their government, proposals were received from influential entities commonly referred to as the “Deep State.” These entities suggested that Yunus’s administration should continue in power until 2029, with full backing from them.

2. However, these entities had specific demands, including advancing their interests in certain sectors, and had even prepared a detailed plan.

3. Their argument was that leaders of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party had already been convicted. If those convictions remained, they would be unable to contest elections. Legal cases could be prolonged through repeated adjournments, effectively sidelining opposition leadership.

4. Tarique Rahman had also been convicted, and if his conviction stood, he would be unable to contest elections even if they were held.

5. A comprehensive strategy had allegedly been prepared to keep the interim government in power.

6. Bhuiyan stated that they did not accept such an arrangement. He claimed they prioritised democracy and, due to their commitment, elections were conducted. To avoid any doubts about the electoral process, they voluntarily relinquished power.

Editorial Perspectives

  • The political developments in Bangladesh, including attacks on Hindus, are part of a larger conspiracy involving an alleged “Deep State.”
  • If such claims have any basis, similar conspiracies could be orchestrated in India in the future by inciting sections of society. Therefore, citizens—especially Hindus—need to remain vigilant. Otherwise, Hindus could become victims of such a conspiracy, as in the case of Bangladesh.
