Mumbai – The ongoing war between the United States, Israel and Iran is now affecting Maharashtra as well. Containers of grapes have been stuck at the JNPT port. The port has also witnessed a pile-up of containers carrying onions, rice, bananas and other agricultural produce. This had created some difficulties; however, the situation is now gradually returning to normal, informed Kailasrao Bhosale, President of the Maharashtra State Grape Growers’ Association and the Grape Exporters’ Association.
1.At present, 350 containers of grapes are lying in cold storages in Sangli, while more than 700 containers of grapes are still in the orchards. Around 300 containers of grapes are halted at the Mumbai port. As a result, nearly 15 thousand tonnes of grapes have been prevented from being exported to the Gulf countries. Farmers are therefore facing the question of how the export of grapes will be carried out.
2.Hundreds of tonnes of goods exported from Latur are lying stranded at ports in Iran. This has led to financial distress for traders from Latur.
3.More than 100 containers of bananas from Jalgaon district are stuck at the JNPT port. Since the month of Ramzan is ongoing, bananas were earlier fetching prices of up to ₹2,500; however, due to the war, the price has now dropped to only ₹1,000 to ₹1,500.
