Hindu youth working at a tea estate murdered in Bangladesh

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A 28-year-old Hindu youth, Ratan Shuvo Kar, was brutally murdered on February 11th in the Moulvibazar district. The discovery of his body has created tension in the area. Ratan Kar worked at the Champara tea estate under Islampur Union. Police found his body with his hands and legs tied. According to local reports, there were multiple injury marks on his body, and it was soaked in blood.

1. According to a report by Bangladesh’s The Daily Star, at around 10 a.m. on February 11th, workers at the tea estate noticed the body of Ratan Shuvo Kar and immediately informed the police.

2. Co-workers have alleged that Ratan was murdered elsewhere and his body was later dumped in the tea garden; however, this has not yet been officially confirmed.

3. Ratan’s elder brother, Lakshman Kar, said that Ratan had not returned home since the night of February 10th. The family searched for him throughout the night. They were informed the next morning that his body had been found in the tea estate. The family has stated that they are unable to understand the motive behind the murder.

4. Human rights organisations have expressed serious concern over such recurring incidents. According to the Human Rights Support Society, at least 195 people have been killed and 11,229 injured in political violence over the past 17 months.
