Bomb blast outside to Polling booths; 2 dead

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Voting was held on 12 February for the general parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. Reports stated that voter turnout was 33 per cent until 3:30 p.m. Violence was also reported at several polling locations during the voting process. In Khulna, Mohibuzzaman Kochi, a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was killed in a clash with activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami outside a polling station.

Crude bombs were thrown outside polling stations in the Munshiganj-3 and Gopalganj Sadar areas. Following the explosion in Munshiganj-3, voting was temporarily suspended; however, it resumed later.

In Bhairab in Kishoreganj district, 55-year-old Razzak Mia died while attempting to escape from police custody. According to a report by the daily Prothom Alo, the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m.
