Dhaka (Bangladesh): On the night of 7 January, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir was shot dead by two unidentified assailants. In this attack, Abu Sufiyan Masud was also seriously injured. The assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on Musabbir near Star Kabab in the Tejturi Bazar area of Karwan Bazar, after which they fled the scene. Both Musabbir and Masud were critically injured by the gunfire. They were taken to a hospital for treatment, where Musabbir succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area. BNP workers staged protests near Sonargaon intersection. As this incident occurred ahead of the national elections scheduled to be held on 12 February in Bangladesh, it has once again brought the issue of law and order in the country to the forefront. Earlier, on 18 December, student leader Usman Hadi had also died after being shot.
Editorial PerspectiveIn Bangladesh, attacks on Hindus routinely take place. In such a situation, whenever any Muslim leader is killed, a mindset develops as if Hindus themselves are responsible, which further increases attacks on Hindus. To permanently free Hindus in Bangladesh from this vicious cycle, a Hindu Rashtra is necessary. |
