Illegal Power-generation Provided Electricity to 60 Houses in Sambhal (UP)

Case filed against power-theft

Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) – The drive against power-theft has been intensified in the district. As per the instructions given by District Collector Rajender Pensiya, seven teams undertook the special drive in Raisatti area. It was observed that a person had erected a mini power-station which was providing electricity to about 50-60 houses. It was later found that the entire machinery was set up underground. A case has been filed in this context.

District Collector Pensiya informed that a huge fine will be levied based on the seized equipment and the scale of the theft. Power-theft will not be tolerated in any situation. Such thefts not only adversely affect the revenue collection of the State but citizens also have to face inconvenience as their power supply may get interrupted.

Editorial Perspective

It is most unlikely that such incidents are not known to the administrative officers or employees since the area-wise average consumption of power is known and when there is excess usage, it can be easily detected. As such, cases should also be filed against the concerned administrative officers and employees.
