Fanatic Muslims burnt Das alive

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Hindu businessman Khokan Chandra Das, running a medical store in the market of Shariatpur District, died on 3 January during treatment at the city’s National Burn Institute. On 31 December, a mob of fanatic Muslims poured petrol on him and set him on fire.

1. According to information in a local newspaper, at around 9.30 p.m., Muslims stopped Khokan Das when he was returning from closing his shop, attacked him with sharp weapons and set him on fire, pouring petrol on him. Khokan Das jumped into a nearby pond to relieve himself from the agony. Hearing his screams, people around came running, they shifted Das in a critical condition to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, but thereafter they had to move him to the appropriate ‘National Burn Institute’ in Dhaka.

2. Damudiya Police Station Superintendent Mohammad Rabiul Haque said that the police could identify two accused. Efforts were going on to arrest them. They were searching for others guilty of the crime.
