Drunk man climbs the spire of Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati !

Demanded a bottle of liquor in exchange for coming down

Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) – A 45-year-old man from Telangana climbed onto the Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati, creating a commotion and demanding alcohol before he would come down. The incident has raised questions about temple security and crowd management even after darshan hours. The man was later identified as Kuttadi Tirupati (Age 45), a resident of Nizamabad district, Telangana. According to police reports, he entered the temple premises after darshan had ended, evading the security staff posted at the entrance.

Witnesses said the man appeared intoxicated and was behaving erratically as he moved within the temple complex. Once inside, he climbed the temple walls and made his way to the gopuram, where he attempted to steal the kalash placed atop the structure. The kalash is considered sacred, and his actions caused alarm among temple authorities and nearby residents.

According to police, the man repeatedly demanded a quarter bottle of liquor as a condition to come down. The situation quickly escalated, prompting a combined response from the police, fire brigade, and temple security staff. It took nearly three hours to persuade and physically bring the man down from the temple gopuram safely.

After the rescue, the man was taken into custody and brought to the Tirupati East Police Station for further questioning and legal action. Police are investigating the circumstances under which he managed to enter the temple premises despite security measures and are reviewing CCTV footage to understand the lapse.
