New Delhi – Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s praise of the organisational style of the RSS has created unease within the party. Some leaders said that this would be “harmful for the party,” while Congress MP Shashi Tharoor came out in support of Singh.

Congress party’s media department head Pawan Khera took a firm stand, stating that a party which follows the path of Mahatma Gandhi has no need to learn anything from an organisation associated with the ideology of Nathuram Godse.

MP Manickam Tagore went so far as to compare this development to political suicide and expressed the view that it was causing damage to the party.

What exactly did Digvijay Singh say ?

In a photograph from the 1990s, Narendra Modi is seen sitting on the ground, while L.K. Advani is seated on a chair. Calling this photograph admirable, Digvijay Singh had said that the Congress needs to learn from the RSS and the BJP “how an ordinary worker can be taken to a leadership position.” He later clarified that he does not agree with the ideology of the RSS, but is impressed by its method of building an organisation.

“Congress gives importance only to dynastic politics” – BJP

Reacting to this, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said that the BJP recognises leadership potential in ordinary workers, whereas in the Congress, dynastic politics is given greater importance.

Editorial Perspective

Whenever a Congress leader acknowledges something good in Hindu organisations, it invariably causes heartburn among the Gandhi-loyal Congress members—this once again becomes evident through this incident.
