Principals are displeased with it being below dignity

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) – A special responsibility has now been assigned to the Principals of degree colleges in the state of Uttarakhand. Under this, they will have to count the number of stray dogs roaming in and around the college premises. Under this initiative, principals have been appointed as the chief officers in each university, and this responsibility has been assigned to the registrar at the university level. It has been made mandatory to send a complete report to the local administration. However, local teachers and Principals have opposed this.
The sequence of events
1. Following the Supreme Court’s instructions, steps are being taken at the Government level to control the issue of stray dogs in Uttarakhand.
2. The Joint Director of Higher Education, Uttarakhand, instructed that the Principals of Government, aided, and degree colleges in the state will have to count the stray dogs in the premises of their respective institutions.
3. After receiving this information from the colleges, the local administration will have to inform about the steps taken for the rehabilitation or control of such dogs, and the cases still awaiting action.
Such a degrading task was causing insult to the entire education world – Narendra Tomar, President, All India National Education Federation
Teachers’ unions commented on that order that the job of teachers was to teach, and it was inappropriate to assign such a task. Teachers should be honoured, but unfortunately, teachers were expected to count dogs. All India National Education Federation Board President Narendra Tomar said that such a task was an insult to the entire education world.
Editorial PerspectiveAssigning such a responsibility to Principals is like belittling their importance. Has the administration considered the possible consequences of this before issuing such an order ? The question arose, why did they not take the principals into confidence before taking such a decision ? |
