Violence against minorities in Bangladesh is alarming

India’s weak response after the murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh !

New Delhi – India on Friday, 26 December 2025 said that more than 2,900 violent incidents targeting the minority communities of Bangladesh have been committed under the interim government of Bangladesh led by Prof. Mohammed Yunus and that these incidents cannot be dismissed as “political violence” or “media exaggeration”.

“The unremitting hostility against minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists at the hands of extremists is a matter of grave concern. We condemn the recent gruesome killing of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh, and expect that the perpetrators of the crime would be brought to justice,” said Mr. Jaiswal in the weekly briefing of the MEA.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal condemned the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh and reiterated India’s call for holding “inclusive” poll indicating India’s opposition to excluding any political party from participating in the February 2026 election.

India Expects Free, Fair and Inclusive Elections in Bangladesh

General elections are scheduled to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February 2026. Speaking on this, Jaiswal said that, India expects Bangladesh to conduct free, fair, and inclusive elections. India remains committed to maintaining strong relations with the people of Bangladesh. India hopes that peace and stability will prevail there and that there will be broad participation from all parties, enabling people to express their views freely.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Such meek response will have no impact whatsoever on extremist Muslims in Bangladesh, because even during last year’s violence, India expressed a similar response !
  • India must issue a strong warning such as: “If attacks on Hindus continue, India will stop the supply of electricity and other essential commodities,” or “India will carry out military action against Bangladesh.” For this, India should follow the example of the United States and Israel !
