Devout Hindus agitating in front of Mumbai’s Bangladesh High Commission lathi charged

Police arrested the agitators; the women agitators were beaten

Mumbai – The police carried out a brutal lathi-charge on devout Hindus who were protesting in front of the Bangladesh High Commission at Cuffe Parade in Mumbai, condemning the brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das and demanding that the Government of India take a firm and concrete stand in the matter. Agitating women too were lathi charged. 35 to 40 members of the VHP and RSS were detained by the Police.

When the devout Hindus reached the location at 3 PM to stage a protest at 3 the police took them into custody. The police lathi charged the agitators to disperse them. The Hindus who were taken into custody were taken to the Azad Maidan Police Station. Several women and male activists were injured in the police lathi-charge.

Are these police of India or of Bangladesh? – Mohan Salekar, Minister (Konkan Province), Vishwa Hindu Parishad

Manju Kharat, Maya Parmar, and Shankar Sankpal, were injured in the police assault. Our protest was not directed against any community in India; it was held to condemn the killings of Hindus in Bangladesh. However, seeing the action taken by the police, we are compelled to ask whether the police belong to India or to Bangladesh. The police carried out a lathi-charge as if they had taken a ‘supari’, a contract to kill/ hurt from Bangladesh. Even if the police attempt to suppress the protest, we will not stop. We will take this movement to every locality. We demand that Senior Police Inspector Gaikwad of Azad Maidan Police Station, who ordered the lathi-charge, be suspended.

Editorial Perspectives

Do note that the police who resort to lathi-charge against Hindus protesting through constitutional means, do not dare to restrain fanatic Muslims.
