Case Regarding the Demand to Initiate Impeachment Proceedings Against Justice Swaminathan

  • Letter sent to the Madras High Court seeking criminal action against 107 MPs of the INDIA alliance!

  • Demand made to the Madras High Court by pro-Hindutva advocate Vinit Jindal

New Delhi – 107 Members of Parliament from the INDIA alliance have submitted a written request to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding that impeachment proceedings be initiated to remove Justice G.R. Swaminathan of the Madras High Court. Taking note of this, senior pro-Hindutva advocate Vinit Jindal has written a letter to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, demanding criminal action against the MPs who made this request. Advocate Jindal shared this information by releasing a video on social media.

In the video, he states that if a judgment delivered by a judge appears incorrect, everyone has the freedom to challenge it by filing an appeal before the High Court or the Supreme Court. However, these 107 individuals directly demanded impeachment proceedings against Justice Swaminathan by approaching the Lok Sabha Speaker. According to him, this reflects an attempt to exert pressure on the Indian judicial system and judges, and a conspiracy to undermine the constitutional rights granted to Hindus.

What is the case about?

Justice Swaminathan had directed the authorities of the Subramaniam Swamy Temple in Tamil Nadu to make arrangements for lighting a lamp on the lamp pillar located on the sacred Thirupparankundram hill in Madurai district. There has been an ongoing dispute regarding this site between the temple and a neighboring dargah. In an order dated 1 December 2025, he clarified that the responsibility of lighting the lamp rests with the temple. The High Court also stated in its order that lighting the lamp would not affect the rights of the dargah or the Muslim community. When the State ignored the order, the court issued a further order on 3 December granting devotees permission to light the lamp themselves.
