Nagpur, 12 December (News) –In the syllabus of ‘National Council of Educational Research and Training’s(NCERT)CBSE textbooks the history of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had been presented in a meagre 68 words. It has now been increased to 2200 to 2500 words. In the class 8 textbook the chapter ‘Rise of Maratha’ gives history of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 22 pages. The State Minister Pankaj Bhoir said that we will not stop at this; we will try to present the history of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the textbooks of all classes from 1 to 12.
1. Independent MLA Satyajit Tambe raised this issue in the Legislative Council during a half-hour debate regarding the inadequate coverage of the history of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the CBSE curriculum.
2. State Minister Bhoir said, “the State Government has many programmers under the name of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Prime Minister Modi is trying to govern the country along the lines of ‘ideal method of Governance’ created by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.”
3. Amol Mitkari, member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said, “The ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj True Biography Committee’ has still not been constituted. The state press has not yet published the volumes on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Films, plays, stories, and articles denigrating Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj are widely available on YouTube; and the government should have them removed and banned.”
4. Jayant Asgaonkar, member of the Indian National Congress said, “the history of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharajas being distorted in text books. This will be corrected; But will the government take action against those who have written this wrong / distorted history?”
5. Jagannath Abhyankar member of Shiv Sena Thackrey group said, ‘as per NCERT criteria the syllabus should have 70 % National history and 30 % State history 30%; So, 30% Maharashtra history should be included in the curriculum.
