From the Legislative Assembly…

Nagpur, December 11 (News) – The Public Trust Governance Reforms Bill, which brings significant changes to the management of thousands of temples in Maharashtra, was passed by both houses on December 11. Important amendments have been made in the bill regarding the Gurav, priests, and sevaks who have been associated with temples for centuries, as well as the management of temple lands and other properties.
Earlier, disputes often arose between the board of trustees and office bearers, Gurav, and priests in cases related to the sale of inam land belonging to many temples. Under the new amendments, these lands will be officially recorded as “Temple Inam”, and it has been clearly stated that prior permission from the Charity Commissioner and the State Government will be required before selling such land. The bill also includes clear provisions regarding the appointment procedures and tenure of permanent or continuous trustees and term trustees.
